Wicklow lose despite good performance

Wicklow footballers put up a great performance against Leitrim who came to Aughrim last Sunday on the back of a comprehensive win over Wexford. Wicklow got off to a great start with an early goal after great work from Theo Smith, Mark Kenny, Anthony McLoughlin and Mark Doyle who finished to the net. Wicklow were dealt a blow straight after with Anto McLoughlin having to withdraw due to an injury picked up before the goal. Wicklow continued to dominate the game and played some lovely football. Leitrim stayed in touch and got two points just before half time to leave the half time score at 1-05 to 0-07.

Wicklow continued to work hard in the second half. Wicklow maintained a one point lead until Leitrim got a fortuitous goal. Wicklow were knocked and Leitrim followed up with another four points. Wicklow got another point before the end to leave the score at Wicklow 1-12 Leitrim 1-16.

Despite the loss, Wicklow will take a lot of positives from the game and will hope to build on the great performance and get the win over Limerick this Sunday.
