Kilcoole are Flying the Flag at the National Awards

The annual Cornmarket Cumann na mBunscol National Awards take place this year in the Sligo Park Hotel on the 8th March.  Kilcoole Primary School has been nominated in three award categories.  They have been shortlisted in ‘Large School of the Year’, ‘Promotion of Gaelic Games and Culture’, and the ‘INTO 150th Year Celebration Award’ categories.  This is a countrywide competition so it is wonderful news that Co. Wicklow is so well represented.  This is unprecendented for any school in the county, perhaps in the country, and is testament to the huge amount of work in the promotion of Gaelic games that is going on in Kilcoole PS.  All in Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chill Mhantáin wish them the very best of luck and will have fingers crossed for some awards to come to the Garden County.

Fun Indoor Football Blitz for the Girls

This past Thursday 24th January saw the first girls’ football competition of 2019 as 11 schools in all took part in the annual 3rd/4th class girls indoor football blitz which took place in Shoreline Leisure centre in Greystones.  A wonderful day was had by all and some great football played. This was a non-competitive blitz with a focus on participation and fun. There was enormous demand and indeed it was over-subscribed due to the nature of limited indoor space for this particular competition.

Thanks to all involved and particularly like to the young whistlers who played a vital role by refereeing the games.  The schools present were: St Peter’s National School Bray, Scoil na Coróine Mhuire Ashford, Kilcoole National School, Moneystown National School, St Brigid’s Greystones, Scoil Chualann Bray, Greystones Educate Together, Gaelscoil Uí Chéadaigh Bray, St Fergal’s National School Bray, Kilmacanogue National School, Newtownmountkennedy National School.  Well done to all!

Camogie Participation Blitz

The Allianz Camogie outdoor participation blitz will take place on Wednesday 6th February.  The focus of this blitz is on participation and giving as many girls as possible the experience of playing camogie, regardless of experience.  This will be a nine a-side blitz with no age limit, so schools are welcome to bring more than one team.  Please let Fiona Ní Shúilleabháin, Camogie Officer, know by Friday, February, 1st if your school will be in attendance by text (0863748903) or email (fiona.nishuilleabhain3@mail.dcu.ie).  Please include classes for teams (e.g. team 1 = 3rd class, team 2 = 3rd – 6th class) and a rough level of experience (e.g. club players/school only players) so that teams can be grouped accordingly.  Please be aware that teachers may be called upon to referee matches if needed.

The details of the blitz are as follows:
Competition: Allianz Camogie participation blitz
Date: Wednesday 6th February
Time: 11:45am – 1:30pm approximately
Location: Wicklow Centre of Excellence, Ballinakill
Rules: Non competitive 9 a side , full rules

On a separate note, the third Allianz blitz will be competitive so if any schools are still in possession of a camogie trophy/cup/shield etc please let Fiona know as they will be needed for future competitive competitions (as well as the upcoming one this
year).  We are looking forward to seeing the numbers growing again for this camogie blitz.
