It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Jimmy Hatton from Kilcoole.
Jimmy was a great GAA man. He won a Senior Football Championship with his club, Kilcoole, in 1954. He won an O’Byrne Cup medal with Wicklow in 1957 playing at left full back. Jimmy was also part of the Wicklow team who won the Leinster Junior Hurling Championship in 1964.
Jimmy was a county selector for both hurling and football for a number of years. While he was a selector the county won a Junior Football final in 1969 and a National Hurling League in 1976.
Jimmy was also a very successful referee. He refereed three All Ireland Finals in 1966, the Senior Football Final between Meath and Galway, the Senior Hurling Final between Kilkenny and Cork and Wexford and Cork in the Minor Hurling Final replay.
During his time as a referee, Jimmy refereed provincial finals in four different provinces and county finals in Wicklow, Dublin, Westmeath and Carlow. He refereed five Senior All Irelands in total, three hurling and two football.
Jimmy was inducted into the Wicklow GAA Hall of Fame in 2009.
