A first minute goal by captain Stephen Dillon was all that separated Tinahely and Carnew at the end of the Darcy Sands intermediate football final.
A 1-6 to 0-6 win will see the Tinahely men return to senior ranks in 2019. Scores were hard to come by and the exchanges tough in a messy game with plenty of errors on both sides. Tinahely led at the break by that goal and try as they may Carnew just couldn’t claw it back. Still, at the death it took David Dillon who had been introduced as a sub to take one last Carnew chance off the line and clear the danger. Tinahely had been earmarked as potential champs from early in 2018 and just about deserved their win.
The cup was presented to Tinahely captain Stephen Dillon and the Alan Costelloe trained men will be a welcome addition to the senior ranks in 2019.
