Wicklow GAA Community and the Healthy Clubs Committee, in partnership with the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS), warmly invites every GAA member from everyone of our 36 clubs to attend the Wicklow launch of Oisín’s Campaign
Named in honour of Oisín Kelly, a member of Naomh Eoin GAA in Carlow. Oisín was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in 2021 and, after a lengthy battle, sadly passed away in August 2023.
What will happen?
Oisín’s Campaign – “Every Drop Counts, I Know.” Will feature talks about.
The why of the campaign, to be given by Oisín’s parents.
The who of the campaign. There are three types of people this campaign means a lot for.
- Those who give blood already. Discussing how easy it is to give blood.
- Those who have needed or still need blood. Wicklow’s own John McGrath will give insights into his life saving blood treatments.
- And those yet to give blood. These are the people this campaign is aimed at.
Will blood donations be taken on the night?
NO.
Wednesday night is strictly about providing a way for people to become blood donors and how GAA Clubs can enable this by signing up to Oisín’s Campaign.
Who should attend?
Representives from all 36 Wicklow Clubs are strongly encouraged to attend.
We particularly encourage clubs to bring young adult members (18–30 age group) to this event.
What will be the take away?
- The life-saving importance of blood donations.
- Encouragement for people to become blood donors.
- Providing Clubs with the means to become members of Oisíns Campaign.
Why?
Because
- Only 3% of the eligible population donates blood.
- 1 in 4 people need blood.
- 67% of donated blood is used to treat cancer patients & people with blood disorders.
- The average age of a blood donor in Ireland is 46.
All are welcome
To Aughrim tomorrow night, to learn how they may also become a life saver.
